Good Tutorial for flashing phone

I have a Blu Studio 5.0C HD that has a corrupted Kk 4.4.2. I need to upgrade that O.S. to any of Mm, Nougat or Oreo. Have been around the net/youtube and got a lot of conflicting and just confusing how-to's. Understand, I must use the computer to do this for I cannot get WiFi to work correctly on this phone (no O.T.A's) Does the phone have to be rooted for this operation? Some say "yes", some say "no". And using the computer, anything I must D/l has to .exe. files. Sure could use some good advice!!!

Hey, THANX. Did check out link and it seems there's could be some goodies I could utilize, if only I could get this %&^$ out of the boot loop. I'm fairly sure I'm running a corrupted Kk 4.4.2. Have had nothing but problems of late. I did manage to get one longtime problem "fixed" (I think) but in doing so, the fix didn't make sense.(?) Unfortunately, after getting WiFi to operate, I tried an O.T.A update and the phone failed to update and went back into a boot loop to which I haven't been able to overcome. (Boot loop been a problem for some time now). Once (if) I get this outta the boot loop, I'd surely appreciate some good guidance for getting this phone to upgrade. Thanks for your input!!!
