Google 1 autobackup

Newbie
Hi, I have a Google 1 subscription and, as far as I can tell, I've made all the necessary settings on my phone (Pixel 4) for everything to be backed up automatically. But from time to time I still get a Google 1 notification message saying "Your backup is six days old". Any idea why it isn't just doing the autobackup instead of telling me it hasn't happened?

I know this is a few months old, but I have the same issue, and it's quite annoying. Did you ever find a resolution? Thanks.

Well I didn't find anything, but I don't recall seeing the problem for some weeks now. Maybe it's been fixed. When did you last see it?

Just earlier today, which prompted me to Google this issue, which is how I found your thread. I also don't think I've seen it for a few weeks prior. It's weird and irritating.

I'm additionally confused as Google has been auto-backing up everything anyway (in the phone's settings, under Google, Backup) even before I installed Google One, so... I don't really know what's going on.

Well I expect I'll be seeing it again then.

Apparently as well as the normal stuff you mention it also backs up original quality images, videos, and MMS (picture) messages.

Not sure... Google Photos deals with photos and videos backup. I would've thought Google Backup (independent of Google One) deals with SMS and MMS. So this Google One backup business really confuses me. I have a feeling it's all the same and not being duplicated either and that message might just be a bug, but perhaps someone more knowledgeable will stumble along this and educate us.

The key word is "original". Apparently Google Photos only does what they call "high quality" backup, so bigger images get compressed, 16MP is the limit for images, and for video it's 1080p, even though your phone's holding higher quality locally.

Thanks for the link.

<sigh> I'm just really confused. Like you say, it says Google One backs up MMS and photos and videos in original quality. But I already have that with Google Photos (minus MMS which I don't care about). I'm on a paid Google Storage plan, you?

Also, even though I got that message about the backup being 6 days old earlier today, when I just now went into Google One, it said last backup performed 21 minutes ago, even though I ignored that warning message earlier (I always ignore it and just dismiss it).

Regarding quality of photos backup, like I said, I've already been backing up in original, uncompressed quality anyway, which counts towards my storage, as opposed to "high quality", which doesn't. To further the confusion, I'm also benefitting from the old perk when I bought my phone which is that (regardless of if I have a paid storage plan or not) my photos will keep being backed up in original quality without a storage limit being imposed until January 2021.

Yeah I guess the Google 1 subscription just guarantees maximum quality level backup across the field, up to whatever storage you've paid for. Outside of that, the storage limits will kick in in different ways for different people. I have a G 1 sub, and I like you I still have some life left in my "new phone" no storage limit deal. And I suppose for many people they just won't be bothered about the reduced storage quality anyway.
