Google Android Dev Phone 1 takes 6+ hours to charge

Hi all,

I am a new comer, previous owner of the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS. I acquired an ADP1 through our research group at school since we were developing an application for Android (WifiMapper, helps you remember APs you've connected to by mapping them).

Regardless, my iPhone 3GS from near battery death to full charge took maybe an hour and a half in USB, let alone a wall charger pushing a guaranteed hour and a half.

However... I've found that my ADP1 takes at LEAST 6 hours to charge from around 5% charge. That seems like a long time to me... for instance, today it was at 12%, and I charged it for 3 and a half hours and it only went up to 52%. Something seems odd.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!
George

hum, settings>development>stay awake...is it on? being a dev phone and all.

That would mean the screen is always on when plugged thus eating lots of charge.

thanks for the response!

I don't see a "Development" menu under settings, but the screen is definitely off when plugged in.

My phone takes 2 or 3 hours to get a full charge after it dies. I'm not sure why yours would take 6 hours i don't understand that

for instance, before i went to bed last night i plugged it in and it was at 60%, about an hour later before i fell asleep I checked and it was at 66%. The LCD was definitely off, and wifi was off.

There is only one reason. The charger you have was cheaply made.
I have the nexus one and when I charge a dead battery with the original charger that came with the phone, it takes about 2 hours. but when i charge the phone with a charger that I bought from ebay, it takes like 6-7 hours to charge.

hmmm... this is the charger that came with the developer phone from Google, I assumed it would be good.

I will try charging with the USB cable and see how it goes.

My guess would be a battery toward the end of its life. You can attempt to retrain it by letting it drain until it turns itself off, then charge it to 100% before using it. Try that three times in a row, and you may see some improvement. You can also check Settings -> About phone -> Battery use, which should reveal any programs that might be sucking more than their fair share of power.

If nothing else, you can probably just replace the battery for $15.
