Google Authenticator, play.google & my Phone

Play.Google on my Android Milano will not accept my password since I installed the google authenticator on my phone.
What do I need to do on my phone to get it working?

Thanks!

Can you access gmail from your phone?

If not, then, From a desktop, you need to log in to you gmail (use the sms rather than authenticator)
Then you need to generate something like an application specific password for your android (this is done still from your desktop gmail) .

Then you should be able to access gmail and market on you phone

By the way, this is all explained in much more detail within the help for two-step verification, which I assume you have because you have authenticator.

Once you install two step verification, you lose gmail access on you android until set up as above. I doubt it had anything to do with the authenticator appp

I seem to remember that when I set up 2 Factor Authentication on my Google Apps account I had to reset my password via the GMail app.

If memory serves I think the GMail app started issuing invalid credentials type notifications once I had enabled the feature and I clicked on that and was able to enter my application specific password from there.
