Google Calendar "New Event"

Since upgrading to Droid 2.1 on my Cricket Zio, I have two constant annoyances when creating a "New Event" from my monthly calendar: 1) "New Event" is no longer one of the 6 functions that pops up when I hit "Menu" but requires an additional tap on "More" to access (what function is more common on a calendar app than adding an appointment!?); 2) when I tap "New Event," the default date seems to be completely random
