Google calendar not syncing (all other apps syncing ok)

I have an S3 mini and I use google calendar app to keep track of my appointments. Yesterday the phone asked me to automatically do a software update . I reluctantly tapped "yes". Since then the calendar does not sync with google servers. The android version is now 4.2.2
I tried all the steps found here https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/114500?hl=en with no luck.
I did a factory reset and unfortunately the problem remains. To be more exact syncing worked only the first time the phone booted after the reset. After that all other apps are syncing fine except calendar.
Furthermore the syncing icon next to calendar is always on (see screenshot)
Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to the forums. Now to fix the calendar sync you need to reset the Google play services app data and the play store app data. When you complete both app data clearing you will need to find the calendar app if its one and reset the data in the calendar app.

Thank you
I did what you suggested, I cleared the data from Google play service and app, I also cleared the data from calendar app and calendar storage.
Now it shows that it synced once, does not sync again if I request it and the calendar in the phone is empty.

Have you tried to use the app store . sounds funny but when you update it takes Google some time to settle . try to download and reboot the device

I cleared calendar data and uninstalled google calendar (my phone came only with S planner). I opened S planner and performed a new sync through it's menu and it works fine: syncing works on demand and automatically and the syncing icon that was always on disappeared. Out of curiosity I installed google calendar again and the problem re-appeared. Apparently the software update is incompatible with the current version of google calendar.

Have you tried disabling S Planner via Settings>apps>all (if you can) and seeing if the google calendar app works properly then?

Have you tried uninstalling any related updates to the Calendar App? I've had this problem and unfortunately haven't kept track of the How in my solutions, but it can be fixed (ounce of hope?). I had my contacts/calendar not update for months at a time, but honestly I think it was the OTA (it auto-installed :-/) I received while at work that screwed things up in the first place.

I believe in my case it was the automatic software update that messed things up. That is the only explanation why a factory reset did not resolve the problem.

Thanks a lot! I signed up this Forum just to thank you. That worked for me like a charm!
