Help Google contacts Not showing - then showing!

Contacts and Settings to Show Contacts = WTH?
Google has REALLY dropped the ball on this one. :-(

I've been using the OnePlus 1 since last year without issue believe it or not. I love this phone and I don't think the problem lies with their updates or programming. That said, I am having the same serious issue with being unable to SEE my contacts when I need them most.
Ever since Lollipop rolled out. :'-/ I miss KitKat.
I have to search for contacts and after doing so (usually a business #) I can then go back to my contacts list and OMFG they they all are showing like nothing ever happened. Sorry just super duper frustrated.
I noticed alsos that I can't bring up the menu to display all contacts when not all the contacts are showing.
Whaaaaat? Yeah just like it sounds.
No menu option to display all contacts unless they're already displayed.

Thinking I had fixed the issue I deleted every group (via the website) and made sure all my contacts were assigned to "my contacts" category, removed and readded my google account from my phone to make sure sync was set up fully, copied ALL my contacts to my sim card, exported/imported and then did it all again just to make damn sure everything was signed in, syncing and set. God what a pain in the a$$... Still not showing all contacts unless one of the hidden ones is searched for via the dial pad first. >:-(

Will upload screenshots when I'm off work tonight. HOW TO FIX????????

I don't think this has anything to do with Google. The OnePlus One has Contacts app supplied by Cyanogen, so it might well be their updates or programming.

Some contacts are showing up only when searched because they only exist in a cache file, not in any contacts database.

Just FYI...The option to save contacts to SIM cards is disappearing and no doubt will be gone completely in a year or two. Unlike other contacts options, SIM contacts can have names and numbers only - no email addresses, physical addresses, photos, birthdays, notes - none of the extra information most people like to be able to add. In short, SIM contacts is old, outdated technology that should not be considered a viable option.

All that said, I *highly* recommend saving contacts to your Google account.

So my wife has the not rooted or put a rom on her OPO. When I go into the Contact App, I have options for Favorites, All Contacts or Groups. When you go to All Contacts, there are entries that are not being listed? That has never happened to her. When you are in the Contacts app and hit the options/settings button and then you go to Accounts, does it have the proper accounts listed? For my wife that would be LinkedIn, Google and Facebook. What do you see in that section? When you are in that option/settings section, what do you see under Memory Status. For her, that shows her that she has xxx amount of contacts located @ Google<emailaddress@gmail.com> Does your look similar?
