I've been trying to figure this out for way too long, so it's time I reach out for some support. I just got the S8, and imported my contacts from the SD card. Everything was fine. I added my Google account, and it automatically synced all of my Gmail contacts (including the hundreds of single addresses from email messages that I've sent or received ever). It was a pain, but I was able to mostly go through them all in the Contacts app on my phone and either merge, or mass delete them. No big deal.
The issue I can't seem to solve is in the Messages app. I'm on Nougat 7.0, and the way my app looks is 2 tabs at the top - conversations, and contacts. If I want to send a new text message, I would normally hit the Contacts tab, and scroll down to my contact. For some reason though, all of those hundreds of random email contacts are still in here. They're no longer in my Contacts app, they're only in the Messages app Contact section.
I've gone into Settings>Accounts>Google and turned off sync for Contacts and also for People details, just in case. I've restarted my phone. No matter what I try, they're still there. The kicker is that I can't delete them from that Contact page in the Messages app - they're there to stay. I did log into my Google on a desktop and go to Contacts and start purging that way, but I want to keep some contacts in there obviously, and I don't want those showing up in my messages app (I don't see myself sending text messages to someones email account ever).
Any help or advice would be appreciated!
