Right now, it requires an extension to be able to cast content from a Chrome tab, but Google hopes to change this soon.
In a Google+ post, a Chrome developer showed off a new feature that is currently in the Google Chrome beta channel. With the feature enabled, all you'll have to do is right click a tab and then click the Cast option.
