Help Google Keyboard's gesture typing enabled but not working

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S3, SGH-I747M, Android version 4.1.2.
I have installed Google Keyboard but gesture typing (i.e. swiping) does not work. There's a check in the box for "Enable gesture typing", but it doesn't work.

As an experiment, i installed SwiftKey keyboard and swiping works on SwiftKey.

So why won't Google Keyboard swiping/gestureTyping work?

That's very strange. I use Google keyboard and am swiping this message in Google Chrome right now on my rooted S3 (SPH-L710.) It's my favorite keyboard for swiping actually. Maybe try uninstalling and then reinstalling the Google keyboard?

Reinstalling Google keyboard worked for me.
