Help Google malware

Using TomTom satnav app on my Galaxy s7 when it gets interrupted and overlaid with a Google Play ad. Very dangerous as I have to fiddle with the mounted phone to get rid of it - not to mention frustrating when in a busy city in need of directions.

I've tried everything known to average man to stop it - turning off notifications for Play Store and Google Play - in fact anything Google.

I've not downloaded any other apps recently - last one long before this started - so, unless an update of system or some app has caused this, I'm totally at a loss.

Any suggestions?

Have you updated any other apps recently? The fact that it was described as a Google ad doesn't mean that it was necessarily a Google app behind it: many apps serve Google ads.

Try clearing all of your browsers' caches for sure, especially Chrome (a lot of malicious ad scripts target that browser).

Thanks for the reply. I do at times go to Settings > Storage > Cache and clear all the apps (at least so it says it's doing). I will repeat the exercise to see if it sorts it.

My apps get auto updated when on wi-fi. Only once, when I was not actually driving, did I manage to take a closer look at an ad and pressing the magnifying glass icon saw something about Google Play. And I've always noticed that a left arrow on the ad wants me to go to the Play Store.
