I suspect the display issue you're seeing is related to the way the memory allocates space for dynamic resizing of the screen as the device uses the accelerometer to detect movement such as rotation.
The reason the display is not exactly the same (1 in 10 you say in this case) is likely because the "old" screens are in RAM queue to be brought up quickly, then get pushed out for a newer version after enough rotations/changes have taken place.
