Help Google Map... driving around with Birds eye view .. where it go?

Hi....

I used to be able to set the google map to show a bird's eye view of the streets as I drive around... with NO destination set. Kind of in 3D view... there is an arrow on the road that always points strait up.. and the map pans as i move and turn.
So that i can see what is ahead and around me... what street is coming up..

how do i get that back?
I searched and only found this... others have the same issue.. no resolution:

I'll try 3d view on my bus trips to work tonight.

All the original Google kids became billionaires years ago. They may have bailed.

Anywho; How about Satellite view?

1. Why? - to make you more dependent, ppl won't be able to read an actual map soon.
2. Satellite? - I thought that (view) was mainly weather related, instead of streets

They renamed the areal imagery layer Satellite view a few updates ago.

@bcrichster Backwards.

1: Zoom down on Satellite view to see the building shapes.

2: Paper maps? Too hard to fold for anything bigger than a town.

Bonus; Street view while in a vehicle is the new maps. Laggy though...
