Help Google Map & GPS

After switching on my GPS and google map app, I try searching my location. It always start up with "Waiting for location" and then "your current location is temporarily unavailable". Is there a problem with my GPS or is there something I am missing out in order to locate my position on google map.

If using GPS your phone needs to be in clear view of the sky for it to pinpoint your location.

If you don't mind less location accuracy you can always fall back to using the network provided by your cell transmitter. You can do this by ticking the "wireless networks" box under settings->location & security in androids main settings menu.

so i guess it's right to say that this is the norm rather than any defection in GPS of the mobile phone itself. Thanks!
