Google Maps: Provide offline Caching

Definately needed if you travel out and about in the countryside.
It makes sense to cache / prefetch a country, or part of (talking Europe here) via free wifi or home broadband before setting off. This saves a fortune on roaming charges when travelling abroad.
time to catch up with tomtom etc.
make it billable (per year or similar)if need be, but give us the option to save maps / images etc to SD card please!!!
Also, does Google maps do a 'back on track' that is as fast / accurate as Tomtom?
