Google Maps - Selecting a route?

I'm going on a 200+ mile drive in the next few days and I have a set route I want to go along.

Thing is if I select not to go on motorways it wants to take me on a wild goose chase. But infact I do want to go on the motorway but later on in the journey.
I know on google maps on the computer you can drag the route to the route you would like to go.

Is there any way of doing this on the app?
Or saving a map online and then opening it up on the phone?

Ta, Bailes.

Ok I sat here for a few hours trying to figure this out. If you have a gmail account and google maps on your phone, you can import your saved routes into google maps but I was unable to actually tell google maps to use it. It would load it but not use it. I was trying to use a route that didn't involve tolls.

Can't you just edit\alter the route now, on your computer (before you leave), then open it on your phone?
(Don't the two Google-maps sync like that?)

Create the route on the web in Google Maps, inserting points along the way until Google Maps shows you the route you want. Don't drag the route, actually insert points into the route. Save the route to MyMaps. Now open that MyMap route on your phone. Select each point successively on your journey.

Also is there any way of downloading the map in on ego say off the Wi-Fi in my house on one zoom level to save it using my internet usage? I only have 250MB.
