google maps - some help needed!

I have the HTC Desire with Google Maps and there seem to be a couple of things I can't do that I used to do with ease on my old SE C905 using the same app, but an older version

What I want to do is mark where I am, save that location and give it a name of my choosing.

On my C905 I just clicked "select" and I could save my current location as a favourite and I could rename it to whatever I wanted. I don't seem to be able to do that with the Android version, or can I?

You can save your current location by tapping on the position indicator arrow and then tap on the pop-up. It will open a page with the current position and in the right upper corner is a star, tap it and your position will be saved. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to rename the position, but you can go back to your starred items by hitting menu-more-starred items. Hope this helps.
