Google maps stopped

Hello All,

Android 4.2.2
M-Horse phone with no sim card

This started happening about 2 months ago. When launching Google Maps the app opens for about 5 seconds, now,,and after that it appears like an "overlay" map comes on top of existing window ,,saying "Maps"in upper right . At this point i see the GPS icon disappear and immediately the app closes ,,,with "Unfortunately maps has closed".
I have uninstalled/installed about 5 times and ends up with same result. I am not sure at what version update this started happening.
FYI: The Google Maps version showing now is 9.5.1.

I can really use this app now,,with motorcycle riding season starting.

Here is how you fix "Unfortunately, maps is no longer working" on an Android. I tried several different methods from people offering advice and this is what worked for me:

Internet Explorer
Settings
Privacy & Security
Location Settings
Then check to make sure that the MODE is on High Accuracy. I had mine on Device Only and it could not detect my location and could not connect with maps. Switch the MODE to High Accuracy and you'll be good.

Good luck

Maybe the map app itself was updated beyond what 4.2.2 can support?
if so, download the previous verision from the .apk website and sideload it back on.
that is why I keep Automatic Updates turned off, I am using 4.4.4
if the app is working now, just fine, why break it with a 'new fix' that is not tested on your device?

Have you looked at CoPilot USA?

I have it and the map regions of interest downloaded onto my phone.
once that is done, it does not ever again need the Internet, so you can go on trails in the mountains and not have to worry about loosing a connection to Google for navigation.

it also has the premiere best, Topics of Interest anywhere, bar none....
it is a great tool for me, I get off of my Honda Goldwing at a rest stop, sit down at the park bench, and open up CoPilot USA and survey the area for things that I might like to see.

if you use the "All Topics", it literally shows you everything that has ever been noted on any map.... everything.... I just love it, from the big museums down to the smallest Mom and Pop eatery.... I love the little shops, they have the best local foods...

The paid version has "Turn by Turn" audible prompts if you want those.
the audio prompting is not quite up to the level of Google or Garmin, but if you are looking at the display, it don't matter.

what is missing? the verification that after you just made "that turn" that you are "on the best route for 15 miles, then turn at....."

CoPilot just assumes that you made the right turn, because you are ON ROUTE and does not say a thing until you get to the next turn..... that is a bit discomfiting if the phone is in your pocket and you cant see the display... I bought the Ram Mount X-mount to hold my phone where I can see it and turn on display if I need it for a minute or two.
