Is there a way to change where Google Maps stores the offline maps?
I would like to store them on the SD card(sdcard1).

Hi, on my HTC M9 offline maps are stored in 'Data' in the Maps app and as far as I am aware it is not possible to change that - there is certainly no way to change it in Maps settings.

Have you a specific reason for wanting to store them on the SD card?

Yes, some of the offline maps are huge 1.5gb which takes up a lot of space on a 8gb phone. and sometimes you need more than 1 map. So moving them to sdcard1 will free up my phones memory.

I guessed that would be the case. I don't know why Google haven't given the choice as other Map/Navigation apps have. I'm also disappointed that it's route/navigation by car only so it's no use to me for hill walking, which is where offline use is essential. It's a shame because I find Google Maps search capability far more usable than other mapping apps and the ability to download a selected city area with minimal data usage (Liverpool took less than 40MB) means I might just use it now and again, but I will continue to use my various other map apps - mainly OsmAnd for hillwalking and Magic Earth for everything else.

Take a look at * CoPilot GPS - Plan & explore! - Android Apps on Google Play

I think once you start using that app, you will forget about Google Maps. I have.

it will download the entire North American map database as one file, and it allows you to specify "internal" or "external" storage. Or, you can pick just one state or region.
The file I downloaded is something like 2.5 gB in size.

but, once it is done, DATA is not ever needed again. The stuff it has available in that database if awesome.
and since it is all on the phone, it is extremely fast at finding anything you want to search for.

Very configurable for proximity alerts, ie, what type you want to be alerted on, and how far in advance you want to be alerted.
Google don't even come close to being as versatile as CoPilot is.

I have the Pro version which IMO is cheap at $9.99 for a lifetime of updates, and will provide you "turn by turn" audible directions from the lady or guy of your choice. You can install different voices...

Oh, make sure DATA is turned OFF and you use WiFi to download the maps.... expensive if you don't.
