Google Maps Update fail... fail.. fail.

Is anybody else having a complete lack of success installing the most recent Google Maps update?

I've had the update on the market for the past 3-4 days, and no matter how many attempts I make the install is unsuccessful. I've tried rebooting the phone, picking it up on 3g, WiFi... my wife's phone is having the same issue.

I'm guessing it's something to do with our phones, the Eris with xtrSENSE, apps2sd (too many for internal memory, even with cache2cache on) but I didn't want to post this in the phone specific forum in case someone on another phone was having troubles too.

Tried that, it said it was uninstalling for over an hour and never actually did anything that I can tell. I can still run Maps but I'm not sure if it's running with or without the updates, or whether or not I can check that from within the app to confirm it.

So as of now I can't update, or uninstall the updates.

I am having the same problem with Google Maps, Google Translate, ShopSavvy and Super Manager over the last several days. All other apps download and install just fine. Very puzzling.

I don't have any of those other apps installed so I can't correlate any experience there, but hopefully Google has another update up their sleeves soon that will fix this. :) I've updated it at least 3 times previously that I can think of, and never a problem with those.

It worked today. No clue why, other than the fact that I turned "Allow automatic updating" off - it was killing my battery constantly trying to download it every couple minutes. :) Gave it a go a few moments ago and it was successful, so I'm happy again.

I experienced a similar problem until I cleared some ROM (not internal) memory as Google Maps update needs more space than it occupies for the initial installation.

Luckily on my Nexus I am rooted and can see my available ROM (not internal phone memory) using Titanium Backup Pro... I also use this to "Integrate update into ROM" feature with a long keypress on Maps in Backup/Restore.

Hope this helps. :D
