Google removed night mode from Nexus devices when Android 7.0 Nougat was released, but it was present on the Pixel and Pixel XL running Android 7.1 Nougat. It seems that in one of the "bug threads" on Google's Issue Tracker, this bug has been tagged as 'FutureRelease' but there is no mention of when it will be coming.
