I thought for sure I was going to ditch VZNavigator once I got my Android device with free Google Navigation.
I'm still undecided if I want to get rid of VZNavigator.
These are some comparisons I was doing between the two while driving out of town.
Driving Off Route:
I deliberately drove off course to see what would happen...
VZNavigator will sound an audible alert if I drive off course. It will alert me to make the next legal U-Turn. If I continue to drive off course, it will recalculate the route and proceed with new directions as an alternate route to my destination.
Google Navigation never sounded an audible alert, nor did it inform me that I had driven off course. It simply recalculated another route on its own.
Repeat driving steps
If I wasn't able to clearly hear the next driving step..
If I was giving the next set of audible directions I could easily have VZNavigator repeat them by tapping the screen.
I was not able to find a way to get Google Nav to repeat my upcoming turn if I didn't catch it the first time.
List View
Switching from Nav view to List view...
With VZNavigator I could simply swipe the screen to the left to view the directions in list view, then swipe back to the right to go back to navigation view.
With Google Nav I had to go through several menu options to do the same. There were times when I would see an icon in the lower right corner that I could tap on to switch. Is there a faster way?
Speedometer
How fast am I going..
VZNavigator could actually report how fast I was going. It was pretty accurate too. Google Nav does not seem to have that feature. It's not a deal breaker for me, since it's not a feature I won't use much anyway. It's still good to have it as an option. Good way of seeing how fast the driver is going while riding on a charter bus. LOL
There were a few other features that VZNavigator had that I liked as well.
I do like how Google Nav gives me the option to view my route in Satellite View. I do like how loud and clear the Google Nav app gives directions. VZNavigator turned all the way up to the max is still not as loud as it should be.
They're both nice apps, but VZNavigator seems to give the best option in regards to navigation and staying on course.
