Google Navigation - Odd Routes

Has anyone noticed that Google Navigation takes you on some odd routes?

For instance, going to work, I mainly stay on a major roadway. But at some point, it wants me to turn left and go through a town's center when I can continue straight on a major road. No, avoid highways is not checked.

Also, my friend has a cheap phone and his nav program knew the posted speed limit and warned him when he was going too fast. That is a cool option.

Generally, it will take you on the quickest route, which wont necessarily be the shortest route.

You can try to alter the route too - hit the Menu Button go to Route Info then click the 3rd button from the left and it should give you 3 options at the top for changing the route. I always try to set my route before I leave so I know its the best way to go.
