Google Navigation: Outside the US

Does anyone have any confirmation (or information) about google navigation outside the US? When I heard about it, I was just assuming it would work, but seeing that the German version of the Droid doesn't come with it, I am starting to wonder if for now, it is US only.

Anyone have any information about it?

I was read in one of the articles about it that it was down to not having enough data with street view etc for Europe and that it would possibly be updated in 3 months. I am not sure if this is true and why street view is a necessity as opposed to a nice addition. They surely have enough map data or can acquire it from navteq or whom ever supplies their maps?
