Google Navigation - Xperia Arc - Offline

Yup i think that's pretty much it. It caches the route and the surrounding region so that you can also do (limited) detours en-route. You can also manually browse a region and that data will be cached.

The cached data is stored indefinitely (i think) unless you manually clear the cache or (annoyingly) if you upgrade the maps app.

I think it will still need a data connection if it needs to reroute.
Yeah, youre right i think it does. The routes are actually calculated by google's servers.

Having said that, the amount of data traffic required to transmit the new route should be pretty minimal. And unless the newroute is waaay out of the way of the old one you shouldnt need any new map data (although the new vector data format used by google maps 5.x is incredibly efficient compared to the old bitmap format - cache sizes are *tiny*).

Although the data may be minimal, it's a problem for me as when we go on holiday we are often in areas with poor or no data coverage. I have recently bought Copilot Live Premium and so far have found it ok. My problem is the GPS in my HTC Incredible S. Most of the time it's spot on but it can be erratic at times and I'm not sure how much I can rely on it.
