Help Google Now launcher not compatible with S9 [AT&T]

Hello,

I picked up my AT&T Galaxy S9 a couple of weeks ago, and when I tried to install the Google Now Launcher on it, the Play Store wouldn't allow it, saying the app is not compatible with my device.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the Pixel Launcher and found the same thing.

Anyone know why?

Thanks,
Brian

I'm pretty sure there are hacked versions of these launchers that do work on any device. But you won't find them in the Play Store (for obvious reasons).

Of course my phone came with the Pixel launcher - which I decided very quickly was nothing special and replaced.

I was under the impression they were only compatible with Pixel, Nexus or AOSP devices?

Alternatively, you could try this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.deletescape.lawnchair.plah

That's not true for the Google Now Launcher. It was originally only intended for use on compatible Nexus devices, but it has been available for use on any Android device capable of supporting it for a while now.

The Pixel Launcher is as you said, however, although I still think one requires a ported version for AOSP.

The Google Now launcher is also not compatible with my Pixel 2, though is listed as being available for my older devices.

My guess is that it doesn't support Oreo, which is the obvious thing that the S9 and Pixel 2 have in common. But it's only a guess.

So Google's software is incompatible with their own devices?

I knew Google regarded it as superceded, so had a suspicion that it might not be available on newer devices generally. The Pixel was just my way of testing that.
