Help Google now without opening new page on phone

google will first open a window with the time then tell speak what time it is.

I have produced the result i want by first opening google navigation then going back to the home screen and asking again and it will simply answer the question then without opening the new page but is there any other way to have this done

It would be helpful to know what phone and Android version you have. If you are using Google Now Launcher you should be able to simply long-press your home key to bring up a search window and say "okay Google" to voice search.
