Why does Google Now keep suggesting I send birthday greetings to people I've never heard of?

I'd go into your Google now settings and uncheck the birthdays option if it continues

Id check a bit deeper in your Google contacts to make sure they aren't in there. If you're a member of Google+, perhaps it's people in your Circles. Could come from any number of sources.

I recommend locating the cause of the issue and ruling out rogue apps before disabling the option in Google Now. It could be a nasty app, and you don't want to hide it by disabling the feature without searching for the cause first.
