Google Pay doesn't pay

My previous phone Moto x4 worked fine with Google pay when holding it up to CC reader in stores. Replaced it with Moto G Power(2021) and it does not register with the CC reader when I hold it up to it. Cannot find an option that is incorrect. Running android 11.

There is no NFC switch in settings. Is it possible they call it by a different name? If not, I would think that this phone is not capable of contactless payment. Thank you for your suggestions.

Sadly it's something we gotta look out for in the specs as it's not a given.
It is disappointing that a decent device like yours doesn't have contactless.
At least you can use saved membership cards etc in Google Pay to have them scanned.
I have two recent Chinese Xiaomi models and a 3 year old Nokia that do have NFC, but I carry around a Moto E6 for my second number which does not.
I can live without NFC and rarely use it for payments - except for a coffee chain subscription where the coffee is already paid monthly so I scan the QR in Google Pay and may as well pay for the food (must have food) with NFC.

Some devices may state NFC but the small print can say check for your region.

Sorry about that. I was a Motorola fan. It may be worthwhile trading up.

It is high time no NFC is relegated to very budget devices which state clearly what you are buying - though there may be legal, regional or hardware reasons. I don't know for sure.

And no... you would see a drop down toggle switch for NFC. The specs are clear cut for Motorola models I would think.
GSMArena says no. Sorry.

Edit :.... and of course Google Pay would urge you to turn on NFC every time if like me you would normally leave it off.
