Google Pixel vs Samsung G7

Hey,

So it’s time for me to buy a new phone. I’ve been lagging behind the curve a bit and have decided to go for something a bit more up to date. I have also decided to make the switch from iOS to Android – the constant updates of iOS were making my phone so slow and the premium you have to pay for new Apple phones is way over the top. Not to mention the whole earphone debacle. It just feels like Apple is trying its best to squeeze as much money out of its customers as possible without offering anything in return.

Anyways, I’ve been doing my research and found a website with some cool smartphones for sale. After looking at reviews and speaking with friends I’ve narrowed it down to either a Google Pixel or a G7.

I use my phone to take a lot of pictures and it seems like these two are really strong in that department. I’m not sure how they fare in other departments though. Are there any Pixcel owners here who have previously had G7’s who could talk me through the pros and cons of each handset.

Thanks in advance for any help

Hello,

Anyone got any advice on this? Thanks for any help!

Take the Pixel if you take photos regularly with your phone.

You should ask why, right? Besides the fact that it's a great phone, I've read that Google allows Pixel owners to store as much photos as they want, there is no quota.

Actually, Google photos lets you do that on any Android phone - at high resolution (16MP or less) If you try to upload photos with higher resolution than 16MP, those will be downsized to 16MP.
But Google Pixel lets you upload unlimited photos at original resolution (even higher than 16MP) to Google photos.

I don't have a G7, so can't comment on "which is better". I have the Pixel and it works really well. No complaints (except maybe it doesn't "look" as nice as some other phones).

Seems like it would be hard to go wrong with any of the flagships this year, other than the differences in cost. You have to determine which phone most closely matches the profile of what you're looking for this go-round.

Both Samsung Galaxy S7 and Pixel have:

Great cameras
Great screens (particularly the XL version)
Good batteries
Good processors
Sufficient internal memory if you get the higher offerings
Good build quality
Fast wireless
Fast charging (Samsung is a little faster)

Samsung has:

+ Waterproof protection
+ MicroSD slot
+ Retina scanner
- Samsung and carrier bloatware
- Possible lag/stutter due to TouchWIZ UI
- Likely delayed OS updates
- Quicker "obsolescence": It's an older phone so it will be superseded by a new model in less time (in all likelihood)

Pixel has:

+ Fast, buttery smooth response, more like iPhone in that regard
+ Timely updates (and Pixel starts out of the gate ahead w/Nougat)
+ Little to no bloatware
+ Google Assistant
+ Unlimited photo/video storage (which helps make up for lack of MicroSD in the 32GB model)
- Little/No Waterproofing (splash resistance only)
- No MicroSD (I don't care about this, but a lot of people do so I listed as a minus)

Some of it is subjective opinion:

You might find the Samsung to be more elegant (I don't, but there's nothing wrong with it either, IMO). I think the Pixel's OS presentation is much cleaner and nicer. *Disclaimer: I've had 2 Samsungs and was ready for something different.

The Pixel might be a smaller leap away from the way the iPhone is designed overall (at least you would still have a headphone jack, however).

I had the Galaxy S7 and sold it to get the Pixel. Long story short, if you want a reliable phone that will stay smooth for the entire life of the phone Pixel is the way to go hands down. Galaxy will never be top dog until they give up on TouchWiz, until then stay far away.
