I am deaf and never, EVER play music. I am having big battery drain problems and Active Apps keeps telling me that Google Play Music is on. Anyone else seeing this?

Should I just do a factory reset? My battery really started draining after the JB update to 4.1.2. I just got a new OEM Samsung battery and it has not helped at all.

You could try disabling Play Music.

On vanilla Android this is: Settings .. Apps .. All Apps (tab) .. Google Play Music then tap the Disable button. Not sure which phone you have so YMMV.

I suspect that what you're seeing is the app started in the background and that it's not actually doing anything. You can keep checking your battery stats to see if there are other apps that are sucking battery and do the same thing for those, though.

Personally, I would first remove any apps I installed around the time the problem showed up - could be you have a poorly coded one .. or possibly a virus

You could also check your screen brightness and timeout, turn of Sync, check all sync'ing apps (e.g. email, FB, twitter etc), then try turning off Location services and radios your not using (Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS).

If you're still having problems, your best bet is probably to back everything up and do a factory reset - that should kill any viruses, too (I think )
