Google play music

Hey so i just wanted to try google play music because i heard it was great with the option to re-listen to any song and play any song any time so on and so on. i wanted to test how much data it might eat up so i switched off WiFi so i would be on mobile data. I have all caching options off. i literally played 30 seconds of a song went to my data usage (checked prior to test and there was no google music data used yet) it says 30 MB were used in those 30 seconds of music. when using pandora for streaming i could listen to probably an hour of music for 30 MB of data. why the heck does google music use so much damn data. oh and stream quality is at normal.

edit: please also do not tell me i can just pin and download what i want to listen to without streaming it. the whole point of using these apps for me is to use the radio and not know every song that will play. basically im sick of music i know and want to hear variety so i have no idea what i would even pin.

Basically the 30MB was probably for the entire song and potentially the next song or the EP. Google Music works weird when it starts caching music, because I have had it cache entire albums when I listen to one song just maybe because it "thinks" I am going to listen to the rest of the album.

It is definitely not the best music application for listening on Data, it does use a lot.

Whoo... don't you think that was too much 30MB of data in 30sec using Google Music ??? I use to listen music using Google Music but my data consumption has never went that much higher ! Are you sure that 30MB is used by the Google Music only I think some of the part are of some other apps i guess Google Play Services app which may be updating itself over the background. So, I would say try one more time I guess the maximum data consumption for a song would be 10MB other than that .....

well the phone shows specifically which app uses which amount of data. i just downloaded and noticed my wifi data use said like 300 MB for google music after just a little bit. so i was like wow that is a lot for a short time. i checked mobile and there was no record at that point of any google music data use. i disabled wifi. then opened google music played a station for 30 seconds. (i know because this was designed to be a controlled test) exited google music. checked mobile data use and it was at 30 MB. im with the other poster saying it downloads more than one song. for google being so "smart" they sure are stupid. i mean on a radio designed to allow you to skip tracks does it seem logical to load 3 songs in a row when there is no guarantee you will like any of those 3. then do that for each song/station/album you click. but whatever i uninstalled it, its a piece of shit imo. thanks for trying to help guys.
