On my old droid incredible, my Google search bar could be set to where it would search, i.e. music, apps, contacts, calendar, etc.

This one on my crazy awesome s3 only searches the web.

Launch the google app ( or Google bar ) > press menu button > settings > searchable items

It used-ta-could. Apple didn't like that so they sued, now it can't. If you're rooted you can find the old version around.

You just need an older version of the search to 'update' it. I found this in the Sprint section of the GS3 forum at XDA. All you have to do is extract the APK file and install it like you normally would sideload an APK. I just temp unrooted and it seemed to work fine without root.

It's called "Revert to LF9 Universal Search". It should be the same regardless of the variant you have. Don't install any other files, though!

Yes it's not root related. No extraction needed here, s3 must have done it automatically. Just open and click install. I keep downloaded files folder on home screen for easy access after each reboot.
