Google search bar no longer has audible chime

Okay guys here's the problem I'm having and it's driving me crazy my Google Now search bar widget no longer has an audible chime.. when I hit the microphone it is working if I look down it will and is listening to me but it does not chime so that I know that it is listening.. can someone please help me out there is the odd thing.. if I hit the microphone button while I'm in Chrome or using text messaging I get the typical chime only on the Google search bar widget is the chime not working and what is aggravating is that the one I use the most can someone help me is anyone else experiencing this problem with the Nexus 6

soft reset?
adjust your sound settings?
could be some rogue app you installed that's taken over some settings?

are you rooted? (probably not but had to ask)
using a smartwatch with the phone?

Did soft reset.. Not rooted.. No 3rd party apps. And no smart watch.... I for the life of me am totaly befuddled!!!
