Help Google Search stopped unless uninstall updates

Droid RAZR Maxx, Android V 4.1.2

Can no Longer press lower Rt Search Key & get Google Search. Get “Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped.” Restart phone no help. “Fix” was to uninstall then reinstall Google Search.
Settings/apps/Google Search:
“Uninstall Updates”
Select: “replace with factory version”
