The Google Sky Map application is clearly a perfect example of how technology can facilitate scientific interest, education, learning, exploration, and fascination. When I have Sky Map open and in my hand, I feel like a powerful astronomer. For my first data with my girlfriend three years ago, I purchased a star gazing book and we sat under the sky. We made a commendable effort to identify constellations, but it was pretty challenging, and we were unsuccessful for many constellations. Now if I would have had google sky map on my phone, our date would have been even greater than it was.
By the way, for a resource-heavy application, Google Sky Map runs incredibly smooth on my Droid Eris.
If you download this app, go ahead and browse through your bookshelf, find any book that resembles the picture below, and take it to a Goodwill or Salvation Army, cause you won't be needing it anymore.
