Google street view

Feels freaky running that thru your own neighborhood. Somebody went through a whole lot of effort with this. Looks like you could walk right up and knock on doors. I suppose live video is their next goal.

Trust me, they're grabbing even more film: museums, aerial views of cities etc. I like to look at foreign cities that we may be visiting to get an idea of a neighborhood.
Also, I moved this to the Lounge. :)

The thing that makes me laugh on this is outside my mums house the dustbins are out so it must be Thursday, but my mums next door neighbours cat is sat on the bin and it's face is blurred out - is that in case someone recognises the cat?

Oh please post the link or address!

When they did my mom's house we were visiting, and I was putting stuff back in the trunk of the car and you can see me, same thing faces are blurred.

I'm pretty sure it's simply an algorithm: they blur faces and license plates. ;) Maybe the cat was mistaken for a bearded man. :p

It doesn't seem that they got our neighborhood yet. You can just see the street from the main road and that was taken in like 2008 so its blurry as all hell too.

Although I do remember seeing one of them around town while driving and I was trying my hardest to catch up to it in some glimmer of hope they would be taking pictures. :p

I was visiting my mom's also, I must have been inside on an overcast winter day. Aren't we all good little boys and girls, visiting our moms!

BTW - Have ya'll seen Street View Fun?

I actually saw one of their cars in downtown Dallas. It had a circular camera mounted on top, about a foot above the roof. Street view is way cool. I eont even use google earth anymore lol.

Bing actually has the best detail of where I live.

The building with the red roof in the middle is where I live, and top right, the long white building with the dome is where I work. We like to play football.

HAHA, maybe the cat is in a witness protection program!

:pHahah I think that's it, cos the cat just disappeared, maybe someone rumbled his/her identity from googlemaps.

When I look at mine when I go to street view and soon right in there appears to be a reflection of someone in the window, but there is no sign of anyone, but on the aerial view I am walking out to my car.

I noticed this too, bing maps as the best quality for aerial that I have seen and they also have a "birds eye view" which enables you to see even more detail, Though they do not have street view that I have seen.

I also see that google must blur out some advertising, perhaps its only for tobaco and products of such because the gas station by my house has a marlboro sign blured .. and gas is 2.22? kinda outa focus in it haha and from what I can tell its at least 2 years old in my town

When I switch to birds eye view of my neighbourhood with Bing, it's like a time warp.

I believe the birds eye view pics where taken about six-seven years ago. Most of the red roofed apartment buildings have gone, and replaced with the blue roofed ones, as seen in the previous picture. Xilinhot is a very rapidly changing city.

Our school didn't have a proper football field or running track either on birds eye view.

I also have noticed with the Bing maps birds eye works mostly in the US from some of the other places I have tried using it, and some times some places it just doesn't work

That is a picture of the city park and the ballroom / restaurant in my town with birds eye

Bing's birds eye view works very well in the UK as well, like oh look I can see everything your back garden...hey nice swimming pool you got there. Where I am though birds eye is, this is how our city used to look, and in China a lot can change in just 6 years.

My mum is pretty technically inept (even though she was a programmer in the mid 60's) and has only seen brief views of PC's either via me or my sister. In fact she has no real clue about the Internet except that she knows she doesn't either have it or really want it.

That said, it didn't stop her calling me from the UK the moment she saw a Google Street View car drive down her cul-de-sac. Apparently even she knew what it was... My mother never ceases to amaze me :p
