Google Talk -- hate it!

Lurker
I recently got an android phone and for the most part I love it. What I don't like is the Google Talk app it came with. Even though I signed out and chose the option of not automatically signing me in, it still manages to show I'm online when I'm not. I tested this out and signed out of all google accounts and when I do that my status somehow goes to idle. I've never had this problem before.

I only want to be available when I'm actually sitting at my computer. This confuses all of my contacts who try to chat with my when I'm not actually there. All the people I chat with are my administrative coworkers who think I am available to do work at my computer when they see the green icon. Now, this is no longer the case. Not to mention the fact that it looks like I'm eternally online, with no life. But that's beside the point. :o)

Is there any way to fight the system and completely delete google talk from my phone? It's not fair that they're forcing me to use an application I don't even want.

Any insight would be appreciated.

THe only way to remove Google Talk is to root the phone. Even then there is the chance that it's tied to something else that could wreak havoc. You should have the option of opening Talk>Menu>More>Sign Out. I have never had a problem with this signing me in, but it will leave you signed in until you manually sign out. Hope this helps!

You can get your contacts to use "Green Robot" to show when you are on your Android or not.

You can find the plugin under Labs.

Thanks for the responses. I actually wouldn't mind just signing out of Google Talk on my phone, which I've tried. But after logging into another gmail account to test this, when I sign out on my phone I see that my status then goes to idle, which doesn't make sense since I'm not signed in to googletalk on my computer or my phone. Anyone know the reason for this?

Are you sure you're logged out of every location that you may have signed in? You're idle somewhere!

Yah Google Talk is reeeeeeally annoying on my droid to the point where I've disabled it EVERYWHERE on my phone, on the web, client, etc. OFF.

It would never work right. Showing me active when I wasn't, showing me offline when I wasn't. Bleh.
