Google Voice and the UK

Literally just received an e-mail from Google inviting me to use Google Voice....

There's only one problem....I'm in the UK..and it's not available here....so my invite is useless until they make it usable in the UK (if that ever happens)

Anybody else in the UK get an e-mail from Google inviting them to use Google Voice?

you can access google voice outside the US, follow these steps.

1. download hospot shield to connect to a vpn client and to get an IP address from a server in the US. By doing this, google voice thinks you access the site from the us.

2. open a free SIP account at sip2sip.info or another free SIP provider. SIP basically allows you to receive phone calls for free on your computer. if you want to place calls, you will have to prepay a certain amount.

3. to use your SIP account, download a phone program for your computer. X-lite will do! enter your SIP information.

4. goto FREE IP Calling with IPKall. with your SIP account, you can get a WA State phone number for free. you will have to enter your SIP data (e.g. Account: 2342345245, domain: sip2sip.info, password and valid email).

5. wait max 2 days to get your WA state phone number.

6. goto google voice (with hotspot shield activated), choose a number, enter your WA state phone number and have google voice calling you. Your computer should ring (x-lite). enter the number google voice gives you.

7. tadaa... done!

all well and good creating an account outside of us but u cant have your number on it as it doesnt support international calls so u can only have the WA number you setup on the account and you dont want to be accessing that or dialing that when your outside america.

Hi, I found the steps described in your post very helpful, and I followed all of them till No. 6. I even get the Google call, I enter the 2-digit confirmation code and everything things to work fine till I found out that my WA state number won't do for Google Voice because it's not a mobile number! I'm stuck on the part where Google asks me about Carrier...
How can I use Google Voice with my WA state fix-line number?

I set up my Google Voice on my UK account. It's pretty much useless if you're only using it within the UK/any other non-US country.

In fact, should GV come to the UK, I might have even made things more complicated for my self.
