Google Voice Ipod touch

so im not allowed to get an iphone [really long story.] i have a blackberry storm.
i have a google voice account
i hear the new ipod touch is going to have a mic and camera.
so my question is if im connected to wifi on the ipod touch, could i use the google voice mobile app to make/recieve calls and sms? i would foward my calls [and sms?] from the blackberry to the google voice number. and when not near wifi, i will just have to use the blackberry.
can someone confirm this?
thanks

edit-one more thing. is it install the gv app on the ipod and send recieve calls and sms THROUGH my phone [blackberry?] i know google voice isnt a phone service provider.. so if i had the gv app and i made/received calls and sms it would go through my phone and people called smsed would see my blackberry number in the caller id and not the google voice number, correct?

this is getting somewhat confusing..

-i foward calls/sms from blackberry number to google voice number to receive them on ipod touch
-i make/receive calls/sms on ipod touch, only when connected to wifi, and it will connect to my blackberry for the cell service, and show up as caller id google voice number or blackberry number? can i switch it in the google voice settings to show up as the blackberry number?
that would be great for me since its the absolute closest i could hope for without getting an iphone.

thanks

Assuming that the iTouch will come with a mic....

You would be able to send and receive your SMS through the app itself. Im almost sure of this, and even if you couldnt, you could send/recieve through the browser. However, I doubt that you would be able to place a call over WiFi as its not a VOIP call to my understanding. You also dont have a phone number that you can tie to your iTouch to direct where the call should go. So unless its built into the app to forward the calls to the current connection, you couldnt otherwise direct a call to your iTouch. I could be wrong of course, as I have a GV account, but I currently do not own a phone that can use the GV app. This changes in a month. :D

The major problem you are going to have is actually getting "an app for that". Last I heard, the GV App was blocked from the Apple store. Has this changed? Cause if it hasnt, this discussion is moot.

jailbreak and get it from cydia. so just sms? it would still show up as my gv num...i dont feel like everyone i text saying whos this? and i have to say this is my "other number"...ughh

Pretty sure it would show your GV number for both calls and texts. Im not sure if it would even alert you to new messages, I guess that all depends on the app, but there again, no number to send the text to. You could just use the mobile version of GV and send/read texts from there all day long. You'd just have to keep checking it for new messages.

You have a blackberry, dont you have the GV app for the BB? If you are dead set on using GV, why not work with what you have?

You'll probably be better off with Skype for calls, if/when the iTouch gets a mic. From what I hear, it wont work over 3G but it will be usable over WiFi. Which is perfect for what you are asking it to do, at least for calls. Not so sure about texts. Of course, thats if Skype is still around and usable by the time Apple gets a mic into the touch.

Still seems like an awful lot of trouble to try and turn your iTouch into an iPhone. Not to mention the waiting around for the next gen touch to get a mic.

Either way. You wont be able to manipulate google voice, at this time, to turn your future iTouch into a WiFiPhone.
