Google voice like app ?

I was wondering if there are any other apps out there that allow you to send and recieve sms messages to and from a alternative number over the data network.

I love the theory of Google Voice, however have found that the app is a bit buggy and some what of a battery hog.

Doubtful there is anything like Google Voice. The sheer scope of that app is a huge undertaking for any independent developer. Only giants like Google can pump something like that out. Requires telecommunications contracts.

Textplus? I know on the ipod version you get a phone number. Not sure on android.

Pinger textfree will give you a free number so you can text. The iPod version you can call on hopefully they update androids version so you can call too
