google voice/no led

I am cheap, I hate paying ATT for texts so I am using google voice with no texting plan. Works great except for alerts. I had No Led working until it updated yesterday....now no alerts. I have uninstalled, rebooted/uninstalled/reinstalled...etc

For one, does anyone have any ideas how to get it working? I have toggled notifications, icons, etc..nothing. Also, is there another option to get google voice to somehow alert me that a text came in except just a stock ring tone one time and then nothing unless I check???

Must have been a bug in the no led app. It updated today and now it works fine. If anyone knows of a better popup alert I would still like to know. I wish it worked more like the popup on the iphone but I guess thats the trade off for the savings.

yeah i dont think there's any popup notification for google voice app. If you want that, you'll need the 3rd party app like ChompSMS or Handcent.

I use Google voice, but i don't use it for SMS. I pay $5 per month for my 200 SMS. People send me SMS to my mobile, so I don't see GV as a good alternative.

agreed but everyone has their preferences. For the cost of text plans these days, its not expensive.

Check out www.gvmax.com . It should do exactly what you want. My wife and I used it when we were on iPhones and didnt want to pay for text messaging plans. Worked very well and is free.

What does gvmax do that GV does not? With GV I will get notifications with new sms.

I have NoLED and it works very well. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling or email the dev.
