Verizon was somehow allowed by the Big G to make it not work. Absolutely imho a net neutrality violation. I have filed an FCC complaint and urge you to do so as well - - takes 5 minutes. Verizon has their own competition for Wallet called Isis. I will not use it any more than I'd ever use their shyte navigation crapware.

You can always side load it. I had it on my galaxy Nexus even though it wasn't available.

Any new developments on getting google wallet to work?
Nothing as of yet. Verizon is still blocking it and allowing ISIS, so there's little hope on getting the APK to work as far as I've seen.
However I do remember there being an article about Google making a new version of Google Wallet that would even be compatible with non-NFC phones. So hopefully something else surfaces about that because I kind of really want to try it out.
