Google Wallet

I am in the process of setting up a Google Wallet account and to use the app money has to be added to a google wallet card. The problem is that google asks for personal info including my ssn in order to verify my identity. Before I can add money from my credit card to the google card I have to give my ssn!
Any of you who use Google Wallet do you give google your ssn?
Is this safe?

Yeah, I was really hesitant to do that at first. Seems like I couldn't use GW without giving them that info.
That was 6 months ago and I gave it to them.
So far so good I guess.
Not sure what others have done, but yeah, they have my SS#. :o

Yup. I guess I forgot I had given them my info, I've had the card for a while now. I also broke down and linked my bank account to Wallet. I was, like Mikestony, hesitant at first too but eventually signed the dotted line.

Yes.

If you fund your Wallet/Google card through a credit card/debit card there is a fee. If you link your bank account and fund your Wallet/Google card through that there is no fee.

If you link only your credit card to Wallet then you are essentially using your credit card through Wallet, no fee.
If you link your credit card to your Google card and fund it that way, fee.
If you link your bank account to your Google card and fund it that way, no fee.

If you link everything to Wallet then you can decide which to use for a transaction. That's what I've done, so I can pay with my CC, my Google card (Wallet balance really) or my bank account. I most always use my CC. I use my Google card for apps that need a CC entered. I use my bank account to fund my Google card.

Phew. It can get confusing at first.

Nice! Did not know that:) Thanks!

I must admit, it took me a while to figure it all out (even though it's all on the Wallet site/faqs).
I had my Wallet just hooked up to my credit card, that's all I really wanted/needed. Then I installed an app for a store or someplace (don't recall what one now!) that I didn't want my CC linked to. So I got the Google card to use for that. THEN I realized if I funded it with my CC I'd have to pay a fee. So I linked my bank account. Problem solved.

And now they are all linked I can select which to use for a transaction.

Oh and. I know I mentioned this somewhere else but another nice thing about linking your bank account is getting money sent to you. My sister has Wallet too (same set up that I have) and when we owe each other money we just email it. It shows up and then I can either leave it there or transfer it to my bank. It's all magic like.
