Gorilla Glass - Reusable?

Sad News: Note 4 is dead beyond redemption.

Good News: Gorilla Glass survived.

Question? can it be peeled off and reapplied to a replacement phone?

Excess baggage now, a back cover for the Note 4 in pristine condition :)

worst news? my wallet hurts.

The new battery did no better than the one in the phone.
When plugged into charger, back side of phone got real hot, just to left of camera, above the SD card slot.

No reaction to trying to power it on.

Removed battery, plugged in charger and waited.
Phone got hot again in the same place as before.

It has an internal short that is causing the charger regulator to over heat.

Lots of screws on that thing, been wondering what the inside looks like?
sort of thinking about opening it up and seeing if I can visually assess what is broken.... not much chance of me repairing it, but being an electronics geek who fixed all sorts of electronic equipment all my life, just have to look :) :)

Might actually buy a 'broken' phone on swappa and see if I can make two into one?

The R&R process to remove the display in most devices will often result in breaking it if it's not already broken.
You can certainly try, but make sure you have the right tools and plenty of time set aside and don't be surprised if it does break.

I don't want to remove the display, only the Gorilla glass protector....

would be neat to be able to reuse it.

hmmm,

there is definitely a protector on this Note 4. it is raised up above the Home button, making it hard to press the button... took me several weeks to get used to it after my S5 where the button sticks up so high, I was always pushing it by mistake.

there is a tab that looks like it could be used to lift it off....
it was on the phone when I bought it used off of swappa, and I "just assumed" that when he said "Gorilla Glass protector" that is what I had.

what ever it is, it is free of scratches.

found what appears to be a very nice and clean Note 4 tonight, gotta check the wallet out tomorrow and see if I can afford it

There are screen protectors that are made of glass instead of the usual clear plastic ones, and they may in fact be removable and reusable. However AFAIK the real deal Gorilla Glass is only supplied to OEM's for the actual phone screen.
