Gorilla My A**e :-)

Thought I would start a thread about the claimed durability of the glass on my wonderful one x. I want to start off by saying im extremely happy with the phone overall.
After seeing the video of the crazy Russian man on youtube banging a nail into a lump of wood with his one x I was quite reassured that I won't be seeing any problems occuring with a scratched screen or the like............but........ Earlier on today I sat down on the floor and my phone slid out of my pocket slowly (not slowly enough for me to save from hitting the deck though :-(). I picked it up and looked at the screen without waking it. All seemed fine until I used my phone later in the day and noticed a scratch going across the width of the screen??? Ironically the friend I phoned had picked his one x up a few days ago and today dropped his phone from waist height and obliterated the gorilla glass screen on his one. Are we the victims of some sort of telepathic sub-conscious one x slaying ritual? Or am I expecting too much from the claimed scratch resistant gorilla glass?? Has anyone else faced similar problems with their handsets durability? I'm comparing this to my desire HD which I must have dropped at least 20 times during its life and its still going strong with only one minor scratch.

I don't know how those guys managed the hammer thing tbh, if you check the useful links and files sticky, there's thread with a guy who drops his from face height and screen smashes. I'm guessing yours isn't a scratch, but more of a hairline fracture?

I dropped my DHD too, it was fine (it was on laminate flooring though). I'm guessing it's because there was a very, very slight lip on either side of the screen which would take the brunt of the fall. With the One X, it's the screen that takes the full force of the ground.

I think alot depends on how it hits the ground. If it lands on a corner it is more likely to crack the glass. If it lands on its front/back its less likely. I bought an Otter case with rubber corner bumpers when I bought the phone. Personally I think its a no brainer to buy protection for these slim phones.

The DHD has Gorilla1 glass, the One X has Gorilla2 glass.
As I know the 2 is thinner but should be so strong as 1.

But maybe the thicker glass protects better ? ;);)

... and see, Gorilla glass's surface is harder than every metal but minerals like a wee grain of sand in dust could be harder and causes scratches.

Mine's got a scratch about 5mm long at the bottom right hand side of the glass - just above the on-screen black menu bar. don't know how it happened, but didn't have mark on my Desire after 2 years :(

Yeah it looks like someone has keyed it :-( . The weird thing is it did not hit the floor with much impact which baffled me as my dhd took a good battering on more than one occasion and is in great nick for a 2 year old phone

Agreed, unfortunately I take the case off from time to time.

I have dropped my One X a couple of times on the laminate floor and not a scratch on it. Of course there is a case on it but just a cheap TPU one off ebay but it does the trick. Now my Vivid was another story never dropped it but it got a scratch just from being in my pocket. I am wondering if it has to do with where the phone is from? I have the USA one purchased directly from AT&T.
