Got a Vodafone UK Magic? Then you might find this interesting

Hi guys,

First off, I'd just like to say "hello". I've been following the Phandroid RSS feed for a long time (being the owner of a Magic), but I just got some information pertaining to an update on the Vodafone UK Magic...so I thought I'd post it up in your nice, shiny forum.;)

Since there's been loads of confusion about whether there's gonna be a 2.1 update for the UK Magic or not (and since Vodafone have been saying it's down to HTC), I decided to email HTC to try and get a straight answer, once and for all. This is what they said:

"Thanks for your email.

I see no reason why this would not happen.

The final say for the ROM does not lie with us, as the device is vodafone branded, so once we finish the ROM for the magic, it would be sent to Vodafone for approval. once they have finished testing it and returned it to us with approval to release, we would then send it to google.
they then add their final approval after testing and then it is pushed it over the OTA update system to the devices.

as far as i am aware, the ROMs have been developed, but it remains to be seen whether vodafone will approve it or decide not to update the device.

As for the vodafone support staff not knowing what is happening, this is to be expected. As with most networks and mobile phone manufacturers (including ourselves) the final details of updates are not released to the support staff until just before release. This would mean that they would be unaware of the update until probably the day before. They may also be under instructions not to acknowledge it's existence until an announcement is made, as is often the case for unnanounced devices or updates.

I hope this helps to explain the situation, although i realise it does not give you a definitive answer, as i simply do not have one for you.
"

I don't know about you guys, but I take this as a good thing - sounds like the ROM has been developed, but it's just down to Vodafone to hit the button. Nice to finally know what the process is for these OTAs!

Just thought there might be some guys here who'd be interested in this; I'm busting for 2.1, myself.:)
