Are there any to stay away from for battery suck?

The biggest drain is going to be the screen so you might want to turn off the "always on" feature. Frankly, I keep my screen on all the time and it lasts me well through the day. After 12 hours I am usually at 50% so that works for me.

 

[Unforgiven]

I mostly use faces from two developers and my 2 year old Huawei Watch 1 still gets 36 hours per charge. I have faces from other developers, but always find myself reverting to the ones I have from these two.

If you get the Watchmaker app you can subscribe to the G+ group and pick up some seriously impressive watch faces.

My watch never got along with watchmaker, but I know a lot of people that never had a problem and have the same watch. YMMV. There ARE a ton of cool, free faces on there.
