GPS aps and maps

Hey guys, first post here

I got my android phone this weekend and I would like to bring it out and do some geocaching. But there's a problem see, I sometimes go out in parks where there is no coverage, so I can't download the maps from google maps while I am in the middle of nowhere... I was wondering if it was possible to download maps and use them... do I need a certain app for this? if so where can I get maps for it, and what apps would you recommend? I tried looking it up online but all I ever find is stuff about google maps... any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks guys!

Search the forum. Others have asked about downloading Google Maps maps in advance (for travelling purposes), and the general consensus is that it can't be done (with Google Maps at least; there are other gps/mapping vendors which offer a more "traditional car GPS"-like experience, at a price).
