I don't know if the OPs problem could be similar to mine, or not.
When I first got my new rooted v2.1.1 Motorola Defy from an electronics market in China (where I live, and yes, it is a genuine Defy originally from Germany according to the IMEI, but it has a v2.1.1 ROM from Hong Kong according to the Build Number with .hiapk I've been told) 3 weeks ago the GPS worked fine. However, a few days ago, the day after I first used Google My Tracks (just a coincidence, I think), and installed some other software from the Android Market, it now seems to try to seek the GPS connection every 4 or 5 minutes for about a minute each time ALL DAY with out ever seeming to get a connection even in perfect outdoor conditions.
If I go to Google Maps, it now can't get a GPS fix either. Same in My Tracks now too.
I don't know if one of the newly installed programs has a fault on the Defy, or if some altered settings are making it do this???
Since this problem started occurring I've also noticed that I can no longer turn off the GPS access in the Android Location Settings. I switch GPS off and then back out, or jump to Home, but then when I go back (even immediately) to the Location Settings page, I see that GPS access has been somehow automatically switched back on every time.
I've tried to Force Stop various Apps and Services that say they use Fine Location (GPS), and have managed to stop the problem of repeated/continual GPS seeking, although I haven't managed to work out exactly which App is the culprit despite being quite systematic in my procedures... Even once I manage to stop the repeated GPS seeking I still have the problem where turning off GPS access in the Location settings doesn't stick. However, after stopping the repeated GPS seeking problem I see that the phone GPS can now work properly and get a fix with Google My Maps.
More research needed to find the guilty App/Apps.
With the ROM, there're a couple of Chinese Apps (with a picture of a Woodpecker ?) and also the RenRen (Chinese Facebook) App which are locked in the system, but as far as I can see, they're not the guilty Apps... They've been there since I bought the phone.
Any ideas?
